Vintage Directoire Architect's Table
Tronchin table mahogany and mahogany veneer resting on four rounded tapered legs, it opens with a belt drawer and two side zippers, the top forming a writing desk, rack system, rings and brass lock entries, era Directory, early nineteenth century. This type of table reading rack, called "Tronchin" appeared during the reign of Louis XVI. Invented in 1777 by a certain Louis DUFOUR who gave him the name of a famous doctor of Geneva, Théodore Tronchin (1709-1781), with the aim of being able to work as well sitting as standing.
