Madonna in polychrome wood
Italian School (Umbria-Abruzzo) XIV Century
Size (cm): h. 147
Large wood carving full-length finely carved, covered vast areas with original polychrome, which reveals a good view of the original paint layer.
The work of art can be dated between the second half of the fourteenth and early fifteenth century, interpretation of matrix Umbria-Abruzzo.
Although lacking in some parts of the body the sight is extraordinary.
Eloquent is the simplification softened the face, aided by the survival of the complexion of the face with rosy cheeks, as well as the slender form Levantine eyes, and lips minute.
Indeed, it was in use in the Middle Ages portray the characters of Christianity with the facial features typical of Eastern peoples.
The Virgin is presented upright full-length, dressed as tradition iconographic western with red dress, the blue mantle and a white veil that surrounds the head coyly revealing two strands of hair falling to the side face.
As each of our object is sold accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
The work is supported by a base in chromed steel black, that the upright supports and the door to its natural height.
