Souvenir of India Tour:Rare shelf to put or bookends.Fully inlaid with ebony and ivory decorative patterns in coral tinted ivory. Ivory amounts and turned spines of porcupines.Registration on the central motif: "MATARA". CEYLON (now Sri Lanka), MATARA. Work said "Indo-European".First half of the nineteenth century.Matara is a town on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, 160 km from the capital Colombo. It is the capital of the Matara District, Southern Province. From the sixteenth century, Ceylon belonged successively to the Portuguese, the Dutch and then in 1796 became a province of the British Empire.Dimensions: Length 49.8 cm. Width 17 cm. Height 17 cm. Rare and in very good condition.
