Italian but also European cabinetmakers took delight in the construction and decoration of the chests: in the fifteenth century in Florence, for example, the Scheggia, brother of Masaccio, or that of Apollonius of Giovanni, in the orbit of Paolo Uccello, were very active.
Occasionally great artists, such as Donatello, Andrea Mantegna, took care of the decorations of chests for the wedding chest of Paola Gonzaga, Filippino Lippi and Francesco di Giorgio
From '500 onwards it became more and more a representative and parade unit, inspired in the form of the most elaborate sarcophagi with antique backs, or enriched with high-relief decorations or decorated with poor lacquers.
Here you will find some examples of this beautiful and interesting antique furniture.Latest arrivals
