Engraving is an artistic technique. It can be in cable or in relief.
Execution of a 'burin incision:
The cable technique consists of a metal matrix that can be engraved directly (burin, niello, black way, dry tip), or engraved with acids (etching, aquatint, soft wax). This technique is called cable because the printing ink penetrates into the grooves formed by the action of the burin or acid. The impression on the paper always leaves the mark of the matrix.
The embossing technique requires a matrix to be carved in high relief (stamp type); in ancient times only in wood (silography or xylography), today also in linoleum, in medium density fibre panel or in other similar materials.Latest arrivals
