Descrizione Dettagliata
An important oval fruit bowl in chased bronze with a copper patina and a mid-relief decoration of grapes, vine shoots and leaves with a hammered background.
It is a creation of the master bronzemaker, chiseller and founder Albert Marionnet.
Period: Art Nouveau
Circa : 1912
Dimensions : Height : 11cm x Length : 46cm x Width : 36cm
Sculptor's signature : A. MARIONNET
Annotated : Salon 1912
The grape symbolises abundance, pleasure of the senses, enjoyment and sometimes also lust.
It is always linked to a notion of earthly pleasure, exacerbation of the senses, sun, but also to Dionysian pleasure.
The fermentation of the grape gives wine, intoxicating like desire. But the intoxication of the senses can also lead to spiritual ecstasy.
The grape is an ambivalent symbol, creating or revealing illusion.
Albert Marionnet is a renowned bronze-maker, chiseller and founder, whose company in Paris supplied all the luxury boutiques of the Second Empire and the Third Republic.
His works are present in the collections of the Musée d'Orsay.
Like many of his fellow bronzemakers of the time, his skills lay on the borderline between art and the decorative arts.
