Descrizione Dettagliata
Curious 19th century bronze subject, representing a "harpy" wearing a helmet and a shield. No signature but nice patina.
Dimensions : Height : 10cm
Human face and bird wing, half woman, half bird, the harpies are famous monsters of Greek mythology. Originally goddesses of storms, they became kidnappers in the service of Zeus. The Argonauts and Aeneas confronted these creatures whose name is now synonymous with shrews.
They are deities of devastation and divine vengeance. Faster than the wind, invulnerable, cackling, they devour everything in their path, leaving only their excrement, they steal souls and children: this is how the Pandarids were given as slaves to the Erinyes.
