Provenance: Milan, private collection.
Material: Oil on canvas.
Dimensions: 140 x 170 cm with frame, 118 x 148 cm canvas only.
Condition: In good condition.
Description: This beautiful painting of the Penitent Magdalene is a work signed and dated 1831. The painter, most probably a Flemish painter, still unknown to us at the time, takes up the original by Niccolò Renieri with the greatest care and perfection. In fact, he does not renounce a mischievous ambiguity in the beauty of the slight rise of the breast, highlighting the marvellous complexion and the refined hair. The skull (vanitas), crucifix and ointment, typical symbols of the iconography of the Penitent Magdalene, cannot be missing.
