SALVATOR MUNDI XVI
Sculpture of Christ the Savior of the World made in the South of Germany in the 16th century in lime wood. The right hand (which has lost) in an attitude of blessing and with the left holds the globe of the universe. The wide forehead, the braids that form the hair on both sides of the face and the forked beard lead us to a date from the middle of the 16th century. Dressed in a tunic and cape, he has bare feet. The advanced left knee suggests a slight "contraposto". Let us note that in the south of Germany the Gothic is so ingrained that the Renaissance preserves much of the folds of the Gothic before entering fully into the Baroque. It was painted and retains traces of polychromy. Good condition considering the age.
