SPANISH SCOOL. XV. SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST.WOOD
Spanish sculpture from the end of the 15th century with a tunic and mantle and folds from the late Gothic. It presents the usual iconography of the precursor, John the Baptist. There are two ways of representing Saint John the Baptist, the first with the lamb at his feet, which he points to, and the second with the animal on top of a book, which he also points to. Here the lamb on a book is missing and the fingers are broken as usual. But it is known that he is the Baptist because under the cape he wears the unmistakable camel skin skirt. Benoît Bertrand places it in Spain at the end of the XV.
